SNOWFLAKES ARE FALLING AND SNOW IS DEEPER!!

Just looking out the window all of the inches of snow are falling right before my eyes, time to breakout another great ski package. MS. FUN! EXCITEMENT! WINTER EVENTS!

Hey everyone its RICH YOUR SPORTSCASTER once again, can you believe three posts in a row (I know you all are getting tired of me but I love to chat so much). WOW! It is that time of the year again and time for the NYS Empire State Games. Yes, this coming weekend February 22nd through the 24th, all different kinds of youth athletes and adults will participating in a myriad of Olympic Style Events. (I have goosebumps from the excitement this brings to the area!)

This would include alpine skiing at Whiteface Mountain. At the Ski Jumping Complex they will strutting their aerial skills and ski jumping prowess. (would not catch me in a million years jumping off the jump. ouch that would hurt). There will be at the Olympic Center figure skaters jumping and spinning, also, hockey players passing the ole puck around. Do not forget the exciting bobsled and luge action out at Mount Van Hovenberg and X-country skiing!

All of this will start with opening ceremonies on Friday Feb 22nd at 6:00 pm leading to all the great action on Saturday. Do not forget all through the weekend NY Lottery has set up a large stage with musical entertainment for all ages and games and prizes. You will not want to miss all of this fun and entertainment as some of the aspiring athletes from all over NY state compete for gold. TRICKS! HOOPS! AND SWOOSHES!

As promised, RICH YOUR SPORTSCASTER coming to you about the exciting upcoming event during the President’s Holiday Week. The exciting and exhilarting HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS are coming to Lake Placid at the Olympic Center. Thats right those daredevil and performers of the hoops will be strutting their stuff at our very own Olympic Oval. See these guys perform their basketball trickery right in front of your very eyes. This is an event the children will not want to miss. (Hey, even I wish that they would let me get in on the action. I can spin a basketball on my finger so who knows they might volunteer me to join in a trick. Guess I can dream!)

PRESIDENT’S HOLIDAY TIME IS HERE!!!!

Believe it or not we are half way through the winter season, so it has to be time for the Presidents Holiday winter break week taking place Feb.15th-23rd. It has been a great season so far and the snow conditions are better than they ever were. Over the past week there has been over a foot of fresh powder with more in the upcoming forecast (YEEEHAWWWW!!!)

Okay, enough about the ski conditions, for all of you non-skiiers there is a lot of exciting events and winter activities to entertain all of us who are children at heart. (I love making Snow angels). Perhaps you would like to try your hand at Ice skating at the Olympic Speedskating Oval where they have many sessions for gliding over the ice. My fav is taking the exhilarating BOBSLED RIDE down the track at Mt. Van Hovenberg. You do not want to miss it!!!! Of course there are events taking place at all these venues and the ski jumping complex for this whole week!

PARADE! ICE CASTLE! WINTER FUN!

Hey everyone, RICH YOUR LOCAL NEWSCASTER coming to you from Saranac Lake where the 111th Saranac Lake Winter Carnival is well under way. This is a festival of many sporting events, great food, live entertainment and a great parade and fireworks display. This is taking place from now Feb. 4th until Monday Feb.10th, 2008. It is time to enjoy and celebrate this great Adirondack area and the winter season. You should see the event called the Fry Pan toss, where you see the ladies throwing these cast iron pans. (OUCH! hope one does not hit me in the head from a mis-aim).

Anyway one of the great highlights of this carnival which can be seen by driving down RT 86 in Saranac Lake is the Lighted Ice Castle. This is constructed out of the lake ice and has a maze for the children and is quite the spectacular lighted sight. (makes me all warm inside or cold if you are standing near it BRRRR!!). Also, this coming Saturday Feb. 9th there is the great parade for adults and children alike that you will def. not want to miss.
