Now that the turkey has been carved and everyone has filled their bellies with very nice delectables. (Boy did I stuff myself, just like the bird) Time to start thinking about the upcoming Holiday Season. What better way to get that much needed shopping or just to kick back and relax than the Alpine Village of Lake Placid. Downtown is transformed into a winter wonderland complete with boutique shops, delightful restaurants & people filled with holiday cheer.

This year Lake Placid is hosting the first ever HOLIDAY VILLAGE STROLL on the weekend of December 5th through the 7th. RICH YOUR NEWSCASTER is here to assure you that there will be plenty of fun and excitement for everyone in your family. Many local businesses and resorts in the area are participating in this festive event. There will be plenty of local discounts at all the shopping boutiques in downtown Lake Placid for all of ye’ ole bustling holiday shoppers.

So what are all the festivities you are wondering?
There is free public skating at the Olympic Oval from 7 to 9pm on Friday which will feature holiday characters, carolers, hot chocolate and a bonfire. (Very exciting indeed) On Saturday the “big guy” Santa will be arriving on fire truck at Mid’s Park on Main St. The children can sit and sip on hot chocolate with Santa (gotta sit on his lap to get my X-mas list in..hehe) Also, at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts in the afternoon there will be free holiday kids movies. Did not forget about the adults!! In the evening there will be plenty of live music and entertainment at the local restaurants and pubs. To top off the weekend, on Sunday morning, the children can sit down with Santa at our very own restaurant CHARLIE’S and enjoy breakfast with Santa. They will enjoy making crafts with his elves as well.

Very exciting as we approach this upcoming ski and winter season! WHITEFACE MOUNTAIN has offically announced that they have started making snow as of a few days ago. Already trails are getting covered with that ever so popular powder. RICH YOUR NEWSCASTER is so excited that the 08′-09′ ski season is almost here.

From the snow gods that are the people at Whiteface, have announced that the official opening of some of their trails will be this coming Thanksgiving Weekend. To be further exact, the opening will be Friday November 28th. (Alright time to strap on the skis and swoosh down the slopes…hopefully this boy will keep his head out of the snow!!!) This plans on being an exciting year as the new LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN will boast three new trails. Now everyone that is definetely reason to cheer for the ever expanding mountain.

Yes, as I am sure that all of you are aware but Thanksgiving is just around the corner. RICH YOUR NEWCASTER wanting to let all of you know about the perfect family get together in Lake Placid. That is right there is a great spectacular professional ice skating show that takes place annually on the weekend of Thanksgiving in the Herb Brooks Arena.

STARS ON ICE sponsered by Smuckers brings professional figure skaters from around the world for one evening in Lake Placid to showcase their skating talents. They put on a spectacular Ice Show that everyone in the family will enjoy. Some of the great skaters that will be featured this year is Michael Weiss and Sasha Cohen. There will also be a special apperance by 2008’s World Champion Jeffrey Buttle. (WOW! Excitement is abound, watching all those spins and jumps makes me nautious). This joyous event will take place on Saturday November 29th at 8pm.

Exciting action happening all this week in Lake Placid!! RICH YOUR SPORTSCASTER wanting to inform all of you hockey fans out there about this week’s exciting action. Lake Placid and the Olympic Center is hosting the 2008 FOUR NATIONS MEN & WOMEN’S HOCKEY TOURNAMENT. Yes, that is right teams from around the world will be descending on Lake Placid with hockey sticks and pucks in hand. Competing for the honor of being the best country in hockey!!!

USA Hockey and the Olympic Regional Development Authority will host a pair of international tournaments simultaneously at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y., from Nov. 4-9, 2008. The Women’s Four Nations Cup will feature the United States, Canada, Finland and Sweden, while the Men’s Under-18 Four Nations Cup will highlight the United States, Finland, Sweden and Switzerland.
The majority of the games will take place in the 1980 Rink Herb Brooks Arena, the location of the historic “Miracle on Ice” victory. The remainder of the games will also take place in the Olympic Center, at the 1932 Arena.
