The Ides of March are just around the corner and I know for a lot of you out there that means Spring is on the way. But hey do not forget Lake Placid is the perfect Winter Wonderland and there is great skiing and other winter activities through out the month of March. So, do not break out those spring clothes, yet, brrr….that would be cold on the slopes. (Snow making is always going on at Whiteface Mountain).

MS. DEALMAKER wanting to strongly suggest it is time to make that last minute Lake Placid ski vacation. The Golden Arrow Resort has the perfect package for any occassion. Getting ready for that family vacation in Lake Placid and wondering “Okay not what are we going to do?” On top of all the great skiing and other winter activites in the area, there is still many events to keep all of you having a grand time!

RICH YOUR NEWSCASTER here to bring you even more events coming up in a few days in this quaint Lake Placid resort town. A tradition on the final weekend of President’s Holiday week is the EMPIRE STATE GAMES. This year will be the 29th year for this event. It will take place on Saturday February 21st and Sunday February 22nd. Bringing young and older athletes from all over New York State to participate in an array of winter sports. From pristine figure skating (my fav), to bobsled, luge and skeleton (ouch head first), alpine downhill skiing, ski jumping and Speed Skating, not to mention much more (whew! out of breath thinking of all of this fun). I am sure you will find the perfect venue to tickle that excitement bone. These take place at the Verizon Sports Complex, Ski Jumping Complex and the Olympic Center.

If that was not enough, we have got some more exciting World Cup action taking place at the Bobsled and Luge track. From February 20th until March 1st, the best bobsledders and skeleton athletes go after the world titles and participate in the FIBT Bobsled & Skeleton World Championships.
The top sliders from across the globe come to Lake Placid’s infamous track with hopes of winning the world championship title. The athletes compete in men’s 2-man and 4-man bobsled, women’s bobsled, and men’s and women’s skeleton. Come check out these sliders as many hope to compete in the 2010 Olympics. Who knows you might spot your favorite before the Olympics? Maybe, I could be one of them, yah right, as if that would happen…lol.

Yes, Lake Placid is the place to be this coming weekend and if you have not gotten your accommodations in Lake Placid, what are you waiting for?.Do not forget to visit Mike Arnold our Dog Sleddler with his Huskies right out our front door on Mirror Lake.(10am-5pm) They will be howling with excitement. Time this reporter hits the ole ice! Everyone have a great weekend and do not hit the ice to hard because it is very unforgiving!!!

What better way to kick off this adventurous weekend then having Mickey And Minnie Mouse and all of their Disney pals at the Olympic Center. (Reminds me of my youth and the trips to Disneyworld)

DISNEY ON ICE is heading back to Lake Placid on there first stop with their MICKEY & MINNIE’S MAGICAL TOUR!!!! This magical adventure will be skating into Lake Placid at the Herb Brooks Arena from Thursday February 12th through Monday February 16th. As I have been told through my pals at the Box Office, that there are still great seats for you and your family to enjoy. This ice show will feature all of the familiar characters from “The Lion King“, “The Little Mermaid“, “Lilo and Stitch” and that forever young character “Peter Pan.” (This is sure to bring back all of those childhook memories from all these Disney films.)

Do not forget!! All of this upcoming week, the SARANAC LAKE WINTER CARNIVAL is taking place with different activities. The Ice Palace this year is spectacular and the lights at night are extraordinary. (Great photo opt)

We are now in the middle of this exciting Winter season and the event-filled February month is finally upon us. RICHARD YOUR SPORTSCASTER is at the top of the Luge and Bobsled track at the Olympic Sports Complex getting ready to watch some World Class Lugers head down this exhilirating track. They are practicing and gearing up for an intense competition this coming weekend. The 2009 World Luge Championships are back in Lake Placid and will be held Friday February 6th through Sunday February 8th. Women and Men from all over the world are in Lake Placid and are vieing for Gold in preparation for the upcoming 2010 Olympics!!!

We are proud to have some of the World’s Best Luge athletes staying at our very own resort from the Gold winning country of Germany (known for their superb Luge skills). (Gosh! If I tried those high speeds down that track, would probably end up on my head down the track instead of my back….OUCH!!!) Anyway, this is definetely a must see as you head up into the Lake Placid area this weekend. An added bonus is on Saturday February 7th there will be a Worldfest on Mirror Lake Beach that is a free public event. This family oriented event will included tobbogan chute rides, inflatables, skating, hockey, broom ball, snow soccer, live music, food and awards ceremony for the athletes. Do not forget Lake Placid’s spectacular fireworks!!! This will be held 3-6:30pm. (Wow!! Fun fun fun!!!)

Do not forget that the 112th Saranac Lake Winter Carnival is also kicking off its festivites starting on Friday February 6th and running through Sunday February 15th. You must head to Saranac Lake and see the glorious Ice Castle that will be lit up this coming weekend. It is truly a sight to see!!! (Of course do not stick your tongue to the ice, from experience it is not a comfortable situation…lol).

Also, Whiteface Mountain has great ski conditions and what better way to enjoy time with the family then having a Lake Placid Ski Vacation. We have great packages for those seeking a little relief in the wallet.
