The weather is great and time to gas up those hogs and motor up those engines! Motorcycles are becoming very abundant in the Adirondacks and Lake Placid Region as the summer season approaches. RICH YOUR NEWSCASTER back at you and wishing everyone a Happy Memorial Day Weekend. Spring has been in the air for weeks and now the warmer temps have been very refreshing. Thursday it topped over 80 degrees and this coming weekend is comfortable temperatures in the 70’s and 80’s. (Yay! Time to break out the shorts and the swimsuits…brrr kinda cold in the lake for that..but hey to each there own).

Just wanted to touch base with all of you out there in cyberland and say its a great weekend to be in Lake Placid at the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort. The major golf courses in the area Craigwood, Lake Placid Club and Whiteface Inn have all fresh greens and those dreaded sand traps. Our very own MS. DEALMAKER touched base with all of you a while ago about the great GOLF PACKAGES that we have to offer. God bless our deal-makers heart for all the great savings. Or if swinging the ole club is not your forte, then strap on the hiking boots and head to the picturesque views from the Mount Marcy area.

At our very own resort we have laid all of our fresh sod down and the grass is greener than ever and we have laid out our fresh crushed limestone sanded beach area (i love to smoosh my toes in the cool soft white sand). Our paddleboats, row boats and canoes are there for guests to lounge out on Mirror Lake. Just not warm enough to take that first plunge in Mirror Lake but soon enough. There is also plenty of other activities for children of all ages to participate in this weekend including minitaure golf, climbing walls and all kinds of jumping apparatuses at Avalanche Adventures or Pirate’s Cove in Lake Placid.

Time to pack up the kids and head to Lake Placid this Memorial Weekend. You will be glad you did? Okay, time to test my golf swing and work on that dreaded slice…last time almost took my partners head off…ouch…lol. Until next time, Chow!!!

PHEW!! It has been a long and daunting month but the Golden Arrow improvements out on our beach and lawn area are coming along smoothly. MR. FIX-IT is finally back and excited to inform you about some improvements that have been taking place at the Golden Arrow. (sorry its been so long but i am finally getting a chance to take a break..my poor back needs it..hehe). Without further ado, let me get into these improvements and show you the progress that is being made.

First of all out, on our lawn area on both sides of the hotel outlooking to the lake, we have finally removed those gaudy looking old transformer boxes (yay). Have replaced them with a more efficient transformer and out of view from the guests, so that you may enjoy the gorgeous view.

At the same time we have completed our STORM WATER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM out by the beach area and this is now effectively protecting our pristine Mirror Lake from pollutants. (our very own EFQ will be so proud of us). At the moment the grass area as you can see by these pics are not the greatest but do not fret the sod is on its way as I am typing to you now (7am tomorrow to be exact). We will have beautiful grass back and growing in no time.

Installing New Stone Walkway & Garden

While these projects were going on I have been tearing up the old walkway that went down to the beach area and replaced it with a new stone stairway. On both sides we will be doing some nice landscaping and placing gardens on both sides. This will give all of our guests a brand new look to our lawn and beach area and I am certain that you will enjoy this area a whole lot more.

Oh! I almost forgot in front of all of our beach level rooms we are landscaping the front by the patios. We are placing a stone garden all along these rooms to make it look even more inviting. I am very proud of all the hard work that myself and the crew has put in for these projects. In a few weeks, I will be back to bring you pics of the finished product.

We just received the greatest news about our sustainable resort and being “green” that could not wait to share with each and every one of you. It is a prestigous award handed out once a year from the NYS HOSPITALITY & TOURISM ASSOCIATION – STARS OF THE INDUSTRY for a business’s commitment to being green and earth friendly. Our very own Jennifer Holderied went to Albany to receive this award. Enough chatter from this gal (cause I could go on and on and on and on…hehe), read for yourself 1st hand what this award is all about. OH I AM SO PROUD!!!

The Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort located in Lake Placid, New York, received the “Good Earthkeeping – Stars of the Industry” award from the New York State Hospitality and Tourism Association. The award was presented to Jenn Holderied owner of the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort by Dan Murphy, President of the Association and K. William Gunther, Chairman of the Association’s Board of Director’s, on Monday April 27th 2009, at their Annual Conference in Saratoga, New York.
“It is nice to have the Golden Arrow recognized by NYSHTA as one of the most sustainable resorts in New York State. I send out my thanks & congratulations to the members of our Green Team & each member of the Golden Arrow family. Everyone has worked very diligently to ensure that we are always exploring the greener options & making informed decisions. We could not be where we are today without each employee being committed to this cause. They are the ones who are being acknowledged with this award.” Said Jenn Holderied, owner of the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort.
Now in their 15th year, the New York State Hospitality and Tourism Association present the “Stars of the Industry” awards annually in recognition of exemplary professionalism and exceptional service from individuals in the hospitality and tourism industry. The Good Earthkeeping award recognizes lodging properties that have developed a culture toward improving everyday operations and the bottom line, while maintaining quality service and meeting guest expectations.

Since the start of their “Green” program in 2005, The Golden Arrow has made significant advances in their Green Initiatives including an in-room recycling program, an allergen free floor & the installation of a green roof. They are a leader in green efforts throughout the State and have set high expectations for other green hotels and resorts nationally in their quest to preserve the valuable resources provided by the lush region of the Adirondack Mountains. The Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort recently received the Environmental Excellence Award from New York State DEC. They are the only resort in the United States to have achieved a 4-Green Leaf rating from International Audubon.

Now all of you can see why I am just bounding with excitement over this environmentally friendly award.
