It is now the middle of August and you are wondering where did the Summer go? Right? Hold on it is not over yet! Still plenty of time before you send the children back to school. (Yes, I know a parents happy time of the year…sorry children) Labor Day is approaching in a few weeks and it is time you took that well deserved last minute vacation. Come on! Jump in that car or get on the phone and contact us here at the Golden Arrow. Our great staff is here to assist you.
Mirror Lake is still very warm and is great for swimming. Try out our White Sanded Beach made out of crushed limestone. (oh…feels so good on the toes) Hop into one of our many canoes, kayaks, rowboats and pedalboats and enjoy a relaxing paddle in the lake. Weather forecast is looking great and mother nature has been very good to us this summer season.
Of course, while you are in the area head over to all the OLYMPIC VENUES and enjoy the history of the 1932 and 1980 Olympics. Your family will have such a great time. In the hiking mood then I suggest heading up to the Mount Marcy and the Cascade Lake region where there is hiking trails for everyone. Pack a lunch and enough water as some of the trails are a full day hike. The children will love hopping on the ADIRONDACK SCENIC RAILROAD which takes you through the back area from Lake Placid to Saranac lake and back. (I love riding the train and dreaming of running the locomotive..hehe).
So, stop wondering what happened to summer! There is still plenty left to enjoy and now is the time to take advantage of all that Lake Placid and the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort has to offer. Have a great day everyone! See you soon!!

WOW! This gals mouth is watering from all the great choices! OH LA LA! Why are we holding this event? The Holderied family (god bless them) owns and operates the Golden Arrow in Lake Placid. It has been recognized as one of the greenest hotels in the State of NY and was awarded the Audubon Societies highest rate of 5 green leaves for its sustainability initiatives. The family recently took over operations of the restaurant Generations and are working towards holding the restaurant to the same green standards as the resort. Generations will be hosting the Harvest Dinner where local farmers and brewers are bringing their food and beer. Chef Hunt will create a meal using those ingredients. The goal will be to raise awareness by discussing the challenges and benefits of eating locally.
As you can see, this is going to be a very enjoyable and delicious evening. Time for this gal to get back in the kitchen and get busy. I am looking forward to seeing each and everyone of you this coming Sunday. Toodles!!!
GREEN EFFORTS! PUBLIC SUPPORT! GREENER ENVIRONMENT!
CINDY YOUR EFQ is back and blooming with excitement from all of the great environmental friendly news that I have just received from the Golden Arrow. Through a two week program created in recognition of EARTH DAY 2010, The Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort in Lake Placid, New York has permanently retired 48 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. (Oh the greenness is coursing through my veins….and cannot wait to continue with all these “green” efforts). How did we go about doing this you ask? Well, it was as simple as becoming a FACEBOOK FAN of the Golden Arrow!!! The program was very simple, for every 25 new fans added between April 8 to 22nd, the Golden Arrow agreed to retire 3 tons of Carbon through the Adirondack Council. In total The Golden Arrow added 400 new Facebook fans in that 2 week period. I am so appreciative of all of our new facebook fans helping with this great cause. We have received new fans from all over the world.
Our very own Jennifer Holderied had these words that I felt should be shared with everyone. “We’re so grateful to be able to work with the Adirondack Council again and take advantage of this program.” “It is was a fun way to take advantage of free social media and celebrate Earth Day at the same time. It is nice to see so many people on the same page when it comes to sustainability and helping the environment.” (I am so glad that Jennifer is on the environment’s side and for that I am going to kiss the very earth we walk on…figuratively speaking…lol).
This queen of the environment, also, has to mention the great support and help that some of the staff of the Golden Arrow has also done in the past few weeks. The Village of Lake Placid held its annual VILLAGE CLEAN-UP DAY and being the “green” resort that we are. Several employees took the time on Sunday morning and helped clean up the streets and sides of the roads of Lake Placid. Their friends and family came out and picked up all kinds of debris and garbage and disposed of it in a proper location. (Gosh! I feel so much love from these people! That my wings are ready to lift me right off the ground!!!)
Check out these “great people” hard at work!!
Before I go, this gal just wants to thank everyone who has helped support the Golden Arrow in our “green efforts”. Keep up the good work in making our environment a better place to live. Give yourself a big pat on the back and I look forward to spreading more green news in the future.
CINDY YOUR EFQ is already back with another great idea that hoping everyone will participate in. How can you help conserve energy by just a click of a switch or a turn of a knob? All my “green” dears, let this sweet ole gal tell you!!! World Wildlife Fundhas come up with an interesting and great way to make a statement about climate change and to find solutions and protect our environment. This historic event is called EARTH HOUR!!! (my foliage is getting greener by the minute from this great event).
I am sure everyone is wondering what is Earth Hour?Earth Hour is a global event created to symbolize that each one of us, working together, can make a positive impact on climate change. This will be taking place on Saturday March 27th, 2010 from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. We are asking everyone to do something very simple. Just turn off your lights for one hour during this period. This bold statement will be made by tens of millions of people and this gal is hoping you will be one of them. Our friends in NYC participate in this event every year and conserve billions of electricty!
If you are planning on making your trip to the Golden Arrow in Lake Placid this weekend, please have it in your heart to shut those lights off in your room for one hour to help in this effort. Being the eco-friendly resort that we are, yours truly, is wishing everyone to follow this simple procedure. Well, I am off to spread this “green” aspect to all of our friends in the Lake Placid village. Thank you everyone in advance for supporting this great environmental idea!!! I will see you in the spring with some other great tips on how to conserve energy and help out this great planet of ours!!!
Yes, it is hard to believe but 2010 has finally rung in. It was a very great year with all kinds of exciting events around the world and in our very own backyard in Lake Placid. RICH YOUR NEWSCASTER hopes that everyone enjoyed ringing in the New Year (I know this boy did-way too much cheer…lol).
On behalf of the Golden Arrow, I want to take this time to thank all of the patrons who have frequented our doors of the resort this year. We enjoyed each and everyone of our guests and look forward to another great year. You have helped us with many “Green” ideas for our Eco-Friendly resort and have taken them all into consideration. Our very own CINDY THE E.F.Q. has been busy organizing and implementing these ideas. The most exciting green event of the year was that we received our “5 STAR” rating from the Audubon Society. It is thanks to each and everyone of our guests and staff that we were able to obtain this ranking. KUDOS TO EVERYONE!!! We also have had the unveiling of our restaurant in the resort as of December 20th. A refreshing family style menu for everyone to enjoy. If you have an idea of a name for the restaurant or bar please submit your ideas to the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort as we are taking all names into consideration.
Now that 2010 has begun, please check out all the great packages that MS. DEAL-MAKER has been busily working on. Just from looking at these deals they are definetely not to be missed. (Our gal has finally snagged her man MR FIX-IT…great for her…lol)

The staff and I (RICH YOUR NEWSCASTER) are very excited about some exciting changes that are happening at the resort. I felt that all of you avid readers about the resort would like to be filled in on this information.
We have officially made our 5 LEAF RATING with the AUDUBON SOCIETY for all of our eco-friendly and “green efforts” Our very own CINDY THE E.F.Q. has been buzzing all over the resort making sure that we have been operating at this level of a sustainable resort. She wants me to tell all the staff and everyone one of our guests THANK YOU for helping us obtain this prestigious ranking. The only resort in New York State to ever reach this level. This is all because of each and everyone of you!!!
The 2nd news is that as of DECEMBER 19th, 2009 the Golden Arrow Resort is re-opening the restaurant inside the resort (formally Charlie’s restaurant). We have hired a great top notch head chef David Hunt. Along with a brand new staff, we will be featuring a brand new delectable menu for everyone to enjoy. It will feature some of David’s signature dishes as well as affordable and great cuisine for everyone to enjoy.(cannot wait to fill up and gain a few pounds with this great new menu). Please check out our website in the future for a listing of the brand new menu or stop into the Golden Arrow’s front lobby and check out this menu. We hope that everyone will give our new restaurant a taste and bring an empty belly as you will want to sample all the great choices (of course if we did that, we might walk out 10lbs heavier but hey I like my food..lol).
Before I go, the staff at the Golden Arrow would like to thank Charlie and his staff for 3 great years of service at Charlies restaurant! The food was delicious.
Time to get the old nose back out to dig up some more interesting news and happenings in Lake Placid. Thank you again for all the hard effort in keeping the resort eco-friendly and achieving our 5 stay rating. We have been waiting for a while. Have a great day everyone!!

CINDY YOUR EFQ(environmentally friendly queen) is ecstatic and doing cartwheels through out the whole resort. Why you may ask? We just received the greatest news about our sustainable resort and being “green” that could not wait to share with each and every one of you. It is a prestigous award handed out once a year from the NYS HOSPITALITY & TOURISM ASSOCIATION – STARS OF THE INDUSTRY for a business’s commitment to being green and earth friendly. Our very own Jennifer Holderied went to Albany to receive this award. Enough chatter from this gal (cause I could go on and on and on and on…hehe), read for yourself 1st hand what this award is all about. OH I AM SO PROUD!!!
JENNIFER HOLDERIED ACCEPTING THE AWARD!!! (YOU GO GIRL)
The Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort located in Lake Placid, New York, received the “Good Earthkeeping – Stars of the Industry” award from the New York State Hospitality and Tourism Association. The award was presented to Jenn Holderied owner of the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort by Dan Murphy, President of the Association and K. William Gunther, Chairman of the Association’s Board of Director’s, on Monday April 27th 2009, at their Annual Conference in Saratoga, New York.
“It is nice to have the Golden Arrow recognized by NYSHTA as one of the most sustainable resorts in New York State. I send out my thanks & congratulations to the members of our Green Team & each member of the Golden Arrow family. Everyone has worked very diligently to ensure that we are always exploring the greener options & making informed decisions. We could not be where we are today without each employee being committed to this cause. They are the ones who are being acknowledged with this award.” Said Jenn Holderied, owner of the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort.
Now in their 15th year, the New York State Hospitality and Tourism Association present the “Stars of the Industry” awards annually in recognition of exemplary professionalism and exceptional service from individuals in the hospitality and tourism industry. The Good Earthkeeping award recognizes lodging properties that have developed a culture toward improving everyday operations and the bottom line, while maintaining quality service and meeting guest expectations.
Since the start of their “Green” program in 2005, The Golden Arrow has made significant advances in their Green Initiatives including an in-room recycling program, an allergen free floor & the installation of a green roof. They are a leader in green efforts throughout the State and have set high expectations for other green hotels and resorts nationally in their quest to preserve the valuable resources provided by the lush region of the Adirondack Mountains. The Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort recently received the Environmental Excellence Award from New York State DEC. They are the only resort in the United States to have achieved a 4-Green Leaf rating from International Audubon.
Now all of you can see why I am just bounding with excitement over this environmentally friendly award. I want to thank, personally, all the staff and management who have made the Golden Arrow the sustainable resort that it is today. CONGRATULATIONS TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!! It is because of you and all of our guests that we received this great award! Time to hit the green road and think of some more sustainable ideas. Bye for now!!
