CINDY YOUR EFQ(Environmental Friendly Queen) is still buzzing from this past Earth Day’s Children Program. Lots of children showed up to help celebrate this glorious day and make the earth just a little more Greener. There were kids of all ages participating in all of the great activities and having a blast doing it. I am sure they learned a lot about the environment as well gave back at the same time. (OH! how this makes me feel warm inside to see the next generation protecting our mother earth!!).

I cannot wait now for the ECO-FAIR that is going to be happening toward the end of May. The great news and excitement keeps coming and coming. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK EVERYONE!!! I want to give a special thanks to VERONICA AND SIERRA for throwing this great KIDS EARTH DAY PROGRAM!!! Do not let me forget SUNNY and all the hard work she is putting in for the ECO FAIR!!! You girls are awesome!!!

ARTS! CRAFTS! FINGERPAINTS! HELPING HANDS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!

Wow! Hard to imagine but Spring has Sprung and I want to tell you about the exciting Eco event that we are holding. CINDY YOUR EFQ here buzzing from limb to limb about the exciting children event being held on EARTH DAY. We are hosting our first ever KEEPING IT GREEN-KIDS ACTIVITIES WORKSHOP. Showing the children how to have fun while protecting and recycling products to save this great land that we live in. (Oh my! I am beaming from ear to ear to be participating in this fabulous event). I know of one child who is giggling with glee about this event for the children. So, I will hand over the keyboard and let Little Z tell you about the activities.

Tank you Miss EFQ Lady! i cannot believe my little eyes about this great event. If the wether is nice we will have booths set up outside for all diffrent fun events. There will be bird feeder making out of pine cones. (That is so fun YEAH!). Also, we get to plant herb seedlings in tin cans and finger painting (my fav messy) of this great earth. So, much fun and educating at the same time I cannot wait. Well, EFQ lady i have to head to bed and cannot wait for Earth day.

Goodnight Z and thank you so much for helping with this fun event. This Keeping it Green event will take place Tuesday April 22nd, 2008 from 11am to 2pm weather permitting outside and if not in one of our fabulous meeting rooms. I want to throw a shout out to VERONICA AND SIERRA for putting this whole event together. You are awesome and care so much for the environment! Thank you!

SAVING THE ENVIRONMENT!! BARKING AND MEOWING UP THE RIGHT TREE!!

CINDY THE EFQ (Environmental Friendly Queen) coming to you about the nice generous donation that we have made to the NATURE CONSERVANCY. Thanks to all of our return guests in 07′ that returned their X-mas card. Each card received back to the resort, we donated $5. This came up to a grand total of $755. (WOW!) This girl is all a flutter about how much people care about the environment. For further info about this organization please visit www.nature.org. Thank you to all who helped us with this donation and we look forward to further donations in the future. Please look for all the great changes that I will be coming up with for our eco-friendly resort. And now I will turn it over to Sammy and Clark for the next exciting donation.

WOOF! ROLF! AND A YELP TOO!!! This is SAMMY AND CLARK coming to you from the Humane Society in Saranac Lake where the Golden Arrow has just made a great donation to this worthy cause. Now all of our animal pals will get the great care and food to keep them going while they await for a caring and loving person to adopt them.This donation came to a howling $1,767. (PANT PANT) This is barking up our alley! Well, time to go and check out all these great pets and who knows they might have a little snack that we can devour. (MMMMM!! Rolf and Woof)

HIP HIP HOORAY!!! HIP HIP HOORAY!!!

EFQ (ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY QUEEN) bringing everyone the upmost exciting and earth friendly promotion that our resort has achieved. I am talking about the Audubon International Green Leaf Eco-Rating. We have achieved the next level in leafiness and now are rated FOUR LEAVES by this prestigious group. (boy is this girl just trembling with excitement from this green development.)

Thanks to our great efforts of putting in the Green Roof in the Spring of 2008 and all the eco-friendly changes in the resort; we have received this next level!!
For all of you who do not know what a green roof is, here is a little explanation:

A Green Roof is a living roof. It is a roof literally covered with soil and plants to create a living breathing space. The benefits are many. In addition to looking beautiful, it will nearly double the life of the roof underneath it. It creates energy savings by acting as a super insulator, keeping the building warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It also acts as a storm water management system, catching pollutants as they drain off the roof. This is especially important for us since we are located directly on the lake. The Oxygen released by the plants will help the hotel reduce its carbon footprint. We are growing local plant & herb species. The herbs will be used by Charlie’s in their meal preparation. Hopefully it will also create a nice environment for birds and insects.

This is just exciting and we are now looking to go to the top level of 5 leaves by the year 2009. I got to get this girl into gear and think of how to reach this next level and show that our resort cares about our everchanging and lovely environment. If anyone knows of possible ways that we can improve our eco-friendly resort, please drop us a line as we will take all ideas into account.

SAMMY AND CLARK barking your way from our favorite resort and our tails are wagging with excitement about our Huskie friends that are back to visit. Our pal Mike and A.J. are back for another exciting season of DOG SLED RIDES ON MIRROR LAKE (BARK BARK). As we are drooling over our favorite dish of food, the boys are out on the lake carving out their trail for the rides. Our Huskie friends look better than ever (WOOF) and we cannot wait to play and frolick in the snow with them.

For all of you humans who do not know about these dog sled rides; you surely do not know what you are missing. For $10 you can ride in a traditional dog sled sled with 6 huskies pulling you across and around Mirror Lake. You will be covered with nice warm furs and pelts to make the experience a howling experience!!! (Rolf). GREEN GREEN GREEN! SAVING THE ENVIRONMENT ONE STEP AT A TIME!!!

Welcome everyone to the vast expanding Golden Arrow eco-friendly resort. This is CINDY THE E.F.Q. sprinkling her magic on all aspects of the resort. Popping up great efficient ways to help protect the environment and smell the fresh invigorating air. (Of course, I always make time for yours truly the queen of this resort). But, have to make sure all our guests have a refreshing experience.

Well, the newest project that we are sprucing up on (no pun intended lol). Is the Green Roof Project that is coming very soon by spring of next year. Now I know that we were supposed to be done this project in the fall but we wanted to make sure that the vegetation for this roof was just right. We are letting it grow more in a warmer climate through the winter season so that it can take shape and be perfect for when we put it on in the spring. Now for all of you who do not know what this provides. It is an energy efficient idea that during the summer holds the coolness in and during the winter is a great insulator to keep the heat in. Making sure that you use less electricity to conserve energy. One last thing, better not forget this or the gods that be will strike me down. I have waved my magic wand and PRESTO! we are now official members of GREENHOTELS.COM AND ECOROOMS AND ECOSUITES. This was a long process and a lot of environmental great changes to the resort but these two sites (which are not easy to join) have offically welcomed the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort as members. Of course, it helps that I am just a breath of fresh air and had so many wonderful ideas. This queen has been working extra hard to help improve the resort by helping give back to the environment.

Criteria we must follow:

Recycling Program – Property shall establish and maintain
recycling programs for the common areas, administrative areas, and
Guest rooms. The Guest Room Receptacle must be clearly identified
for Glass, Paper, Aluminum, & Plastic.
Linen and Towel Reuse Program – Property shall implement and
execute a well designed Linen and Towel Re-use program for all
Guest Rooms.
Amenity Products – Property shall use refillable amenity
dispensers or individual containers for shampoo, conditioner, soap,
lotion, etc. Individual products shall be the smallest practical size for
the length of stay and minimally packaged in recycled and/or
recylable materials. Used amenities are collected for donation to
charity or for recycling where practical.

MY! MY! This prestigous queen is so excited about this new development for the resort; that I have a million ideas swarming in my head on how to make this resort better for the environment.
