Improvements Are a Happening!!

Hello!!  All my fine friends and guests out there in the world.  They finally have given me a break from my busy schedule to chat a few lines up with all of you about the Golden Arrow.  Improvments have been in full swing for the past few months and my poor ole fingers have been worked to the bone (well not literally, that would be just wrong..haha)  Who am I??  What you have forgotten me already??  MR FIX-IT is the name and Golden Arrow improvements and construction is my game.  Sorry, just full of puns and limericks today.  As, I digress, we have been working hard on a few projects in the resort that I would like to touch basis on.  A few updates on a few aspects of the resort.

First of all we have been working on the past few months installing brand new doors on all the guest rooms through out the resort.  These doors have been brightening up the hallways of the resort and given the resort that calming Adirondack feel.  If you have not been here within the past year, these doors compliment the brand new electronic key readers that have been installed on these doors.  Just one of the finer details that I feel spruce up a resort. 

Headed now to the balcony area of the 2nd floor middle wing.  Whoops! Almost slipped off the balcony because the rail is gone where we are busy working on putting intricate stonework on the balcony floor and wall.  We are also, installing some new sturdy rails on these balconies to make our guests feel nice and secure while you are enjoying those nice evenings looking out over Mirror Lake. (ah, reminds me that I need to take Ms. Deal Maker for a nice candle light sitting on one of these balconies before I get in trouble)

Okay!  So, for the last project of my tour of the grounds.  We have been working on the carport area of the resort.  We have torn up the old stonework that was there when you pull underneath the carport.  This is to make way for our new stonework that is in the process of being laid down at this point.  We have included our GOLDEN ARROW LOGO and name into this stone work.  It looks so great and I am so excited for the finished product.  I have been putting a new roof on the carport.  This is coming out very well!!

As you can see, the man of many talents (yes tooting my own horn) has been very busy this past month.  Not going to show you the pictures of the finished products quite yet.  Please take that much needed trip and see these improvements at the Golden Arrow first hand.  They are quite uplifting to the resort and you will not want to miss it.  While you are here enjoy a relaxing night and great meal at our Generations Restaurant.  Ah! I see the boys slacking off a little.  Time to get back to the ole grindstone.  Everyone have a great day and I especially look forward to seeing you all as we finish up these improvements for the Summer Season!!!

Spring Delight at Generations

OHH!!! LA!!! LA!!! It has been quite some time since they let me out of the kitchen but this chefalicious gal, MADAME CUISINE, is back in rare form and whipping up some delectable delights at GENERATIONS.  Spring is here or at least in spirit (oh la la) and I have been whipping up some mouth watering dishes and scrumptious Spring Specials.  (MMMM!!! This is making my taste buds tingle. OHH! La La!)  My favorite guy Chef Dave Hunt (he is a delight in himself…so pinchable) and I have been racking our culinary minds and have come up with different specials for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.  I guarantee you will be back for seconds when you dig your fork into these dishes and the morsels just melt in your mouth.   If you happen to be walking down Main Street in Lake Placid, you can check out these daily specials hanging just outside of our front door!!

 Oh my, I almost forgot to mention, (silly silly me..i get so excited and forget things all the time) we are still having our spectacular DINNER & A MOVIE special from Sunday through Wednesdays through out the month of May.  For a low price of $25 enjoy one of our featured entrees with a soup or salad or one of our daily specials followed by dessert.  You can enjoy our very own Coleman Farm Chicken Picatta, Edgley Farm Bison & Dacy Meadow Farm Pork or Adirondack Style Trout Fillet.  All of these meats and fish are raised or caught locally in the surronding area.  Then, after your belly is full with delight, you can skip over to the Palace Movie Theater and enjoy one of four different movies.  Share this with a friend, family or that special someone that makes your heart all fuzzy on the inside. (I have that special someone in the kitchen who does that to me..Oh! La! La!..its actually chocolate cake but SHH!! dont tell anyone) 

So, what are you waiting for?  I am expecting all of you to pop in with an empty belly sometime this upcoming month of May. “Sob sob” if you do not show.  But, yummy yummy will you miss out on all the delectables to tantalize your gullet and tickle those taste buds.  Back to stirring the pot and raising the dough…Ta Ta… for now!!!  OHH LA LA!!

Easter, Spring and Training!!

 Easter is a great time of the year.  You have time to spend quality time with the loved ones. Get all dressed up for church and of course every childs  favorite, the Easter Bunny visits them.  He has been hippty-hoppity down that Easter trail.  I bet all the children today have been on a candy rush from all those delicious treats and are out there wearing their Sunday best!!!  As we all know Easter is in the Spring and in the Lake Placid area the seasons are rapidly changing from snow covered Mountains to blooming trees and plant life all around.  Trails are slowly drying up for hiking and this is the time of the year that the Golden Arrow spruces up the resort (no pun intended or do I…lol).  Time to think about hitting the Lake Placid area and start some much needed training!

As I am sure, you marathon runners and tri-athletes are aware that Spring is upon us.  Temps have been comfortably during the day in the mid 40′s and 50′s and the snow has left the area.  Meaning that it is time to start thinking about training for the upcoming Lake Plaicd Marathon 2012 (hosted by the resort with the mostest GOLDEN ARROW LAKESIDE RESORT) and Ironman 2012 in picturesque Lake Placid.  Time to start oiling up those bicycles and lacing up those running shoes and hit the race trails in Lake Placid to prepare for this year’s exciting events.

Which means your favorite gal of deals (of course I am talking of my fabulous self…yes little conceited but hey gotta be) MS. Earth Day 2012

April is creeping up on us very soon!  Flowers are starting to bloom and the smell of freshly cut grass will be a great reminder of Spring.  Snow is gone!!  Joggers, Bicyclists and runners a like are painting the streets and mountains of Lake Placid.  OH! Did I forget to mention EARTH DAY will be upon us in April!!  CINDY YOUR GOLDEN ARROW EFQ (Environmental Friendly Queen) is finally back from my much needed hibernation.  The winter was mild but I am all rested and ready to spread my Eco-friendliness all over this great area of Lake Placid.  Ah! My mind is budding with exciting new ideas!! 

Do you know what Earth Day is all about???   WHAT!??  Well, it is the one time of the year that we can reflect back on our very own mother earth and help preserve its precious land in all its beauty.  Time to clean up that waste from the roads, recycle all that you can and plant a few seeds or a tree to give back to this land we live on.  Do not be afraid to lend a hand to a neighbor or relative to help cultivate this great land.  Keeping in tradition with Earth Day, myself and the Golden Arrow, have a day full of activities planned for this glorious occassion.  EARTH DAY IS APRIL 22nd!!  On the parking lot grounds of the resort we are planning a great day of vendors, farmers market and other exciting activites for the entire family.  Local vendors from the area will be displaying their talents with many craft tables and edibles through out the day.  We are hoping on striking up some music players or singers to entertain in the afternoon.  There will be Kids Crafts taking place on the deck of Generations Restaurant and a BBQ from our very own CHEF DAVE!!  He may even do a demonstration of some great maple syrup.  We welcome everyone to join us for this great day and why not stay the night and enjoy all the activites the resort has to offer.  If you would like to display your own crafts do not hesitate to give my girl Jill a call at the Golden Arrow. 

AH!!  April is the month of Mother Earth.  I hope to see everyone on April 22nd to partake in this great day that we celebrate once a year for our gal Mother Nature.  It is going to be a day of fun and learning about the environment. NCAA Men’s Hockey Championships

Okay! Hockey fans of all ages!  Lets get ready to rumble!  Have I got some exciting hockey action that is headed to the Lake Placid area in the Herb Brooks Arena.  There will be sticks and pucks slapping the ice (maybe a few teeth as well..ouch), as some very talented college men take the ice.  This should be a great adventure in Lake Placid that any hockey guru would enjoy.

RICH YOUR SPORTSCASTER has been taking a little sabatical from all the events from February and ready to take to the Ice in the Olympic Center (my feet needed the must rest from Feb. my blisters were getting blisters..lol).  Anyway, back to the reason we are here, great hockey action. Lake Placid is hosting the 2012 NCAA DIVISION III MEN’S HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS.  This event will be taking place Friday March 16th and Saturday March 17th inside the Lake Placid Olympic Center.  The following four colleges/universities will be competing in the Men’s Frozen Four and they are NORWICH, OSWEGO, ST. NORBERT & AMHERST!!  These four teams have earned the right and booked their ticket straight to Lake Placid.  Should be an exciting couple days this upcoming weekend on and off the ice.

Now is the time to book those accommodations in Lake Placid before you miss out on your favorite college team.  The Golden Arrow still has some space available and if you refer some friends to our resort and they say that they were recommened by you; then we will throw in a complimentary drink voucher to our Straight Shot Lounge.  Definetely a must see event!  I suppose it is time to get my skates on and check out some local competition (maybe this time I will not be hit in the head with a puck….maybe)  Hope to see you there!

Irish Eyes are Smiling in March

Now I know it is still February but in the back of your mind you must be thinking about Spring Break and what destination you will choose to relax.  Do not head to the Carribean or Florida!! Wax those skis and strap on your ski boots cause its time to enjoy the exhilirating skiing at Whiteface Mountain in March!!  Now, I know everyone is wondering (WHAT HAPPENED TO WINTER!!), well let me tell you she has kicked into gear this past week.  Mother nature awoke from her slumber and in the past week has dumped in two separate occasions 8 inches of snow on different days (she is a fickle gal who is stubborn but ahhh…we love her sometimes).  This has transformed Whiteface Mountain into some of the best skiing we have had all season and now is the time to hit the slopes and Lake Placid. What better way to whoosh down these great trails and save a little money at the same time; then by reserving the Golden Arrows ski packages.  Our gal of deals (who is a sweetheart in her own right) will now explain a few options to ski and stay at the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort.

The Globetrotters are Dribbling back to Lake Placid

Tricks! Excitement! Slam Dunks! 

President’s Weekend and Week is about to fall upon us and crowds of people will be all a  buzz in the Lake Placid area with excitement. Looking for that last minute idea on what to do in the upcoming week. Than have I got the events for all of you!!!

Harlem Globetrotters

RICH YOUR SPORTSCASTER coming to you from the Olympic Center, site of this event. The exciting and exhilarting HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS are coming to Lake Placid at the Olympic Center. Thats right those daredevil and performers of the hoops will be strutting their stuff at our very own Olympic Oval. See these guys perform their basketball trickery right in front of your very eyes. This is an event the children will not want to miss. (Hey, even I wish that they would let me get in on the action. I can spin a basketball on my finger so who knows they might volunteer me to join in a trick. Guess I can dream!)

This great sporting event will take place Tuesday February 21st at 7pm at the Herb Brooks Arena inside the Olympic Center.  For information about ticket pricing please visit www.harlemglobetrotters.com. There are plenty of seats still available and stop by the Golden Arrow to reserve your last minute room for the evening where you can enjoy a scrumptious dinner before the game at our GENERATIONS restaurant.  Heck, why not make it a few days.  There is plenty of snow on the ground and lots to do in the area. 

Just take a cruise around all the Olympic Sites in the area and come watch the 2012 BOBSLED & SKELETON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS that will be taking place at the Verizon Sports Complex.  World class athletes from all over the world that are featured in the Winter Olympics will be vieing for the Gold Medal in this competiton.  It is an exciting event that will be happening from Friday February 17th through February 25th.  Great time will be had by all at this exciting event.

Well, time to go practice my jump shots and maybe brave a little ice climing at the same time (wish me luck), everyone have a great and eventful holiday weekend and week!!!

Ice Castles, Frying Pans & a Festive Parade

Hey everyone, RICH YOUR LOCAL NEWSCASTER coming to you from Saranac Lake where the 115th Saranac Lake Winter Carnival is about to begin.  This is a festival of many sporting events, great food, live entertainment and a great parade and fireworks display.  This is taking place from now Feb. 3rd until Sunday Feb.12th, 2008.  It is time to enjoy and celebrate this great Adirondack area and the winter season at the longest running event of its kind in the Eastern US.  This year Aliens! (YES ALIENS!! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE) have invaded Saranac lake and is the theme that this year’s Winter Carnival is set around. Spaceships, weird creatures and aliens of all sorts will be walking and entertaining for this year’s festivities.  One of the events which is a must see is the event called the Fry Pan toss, where you see the ladies throwing their cast iron pans. (OUCH! hope one does not hit me in the head from a miss-aim or who knows you may see an alien beaming down to toss a fry pan..now that is exciting).

One of the great highlights of this carnival which can be seen by driving down RT 86 in Saranac Lake is the Lighted Ice Palace. This is constructed out of the lake ice and has a maze for the children and is quite the spectacular lighted sight.  I also spotted an Alien Ice Sculpture as I was driving by so the Aliens have landed in Saranac Lake (makes me all warm inside or cold if you are standing near the Ice Castle BRRRR!!).  Please do not miss the spectacular fireworks show on Saturday February 4th when the Castle is lit and the following week Saturday Feb. 11th there is the great parade for adults and children alike that you will certainly not want to miss.  So, many events packed into one week that you will not want to miss.

Get on that phone today and reserve your room as you will not want to miss the great week of fun and excitement.  Okay, I see a place to have a hot toddy to warm up my frozen feet. All of you have a great time at the carnival and hope to see you around.  BYE!

Pond Hockey at the Golden Arrow

Are you sitting right now watching your favorite hockey team skating back and forth on the ice and scoring those hat tricks?  Thinking to yourself, “Hmm, wouldn’t it be great to hop in my hockey skates and get a small team together to test your skills in this great sport. ” Hop into your car and head to Lake Placid area where those dreams could be come a reality. RICH YOUR SPORTSCASTER outside the back door of the Golden Arrow on Mirror Lake just about to lace up my skates to head out on the ice!!! (wish me luck, that I dont fall on my tailbone again..ouch or worse crash into one of my fellow skaters)  Watching the great staff of ORDA cleaning up the ice and making minature rinks for the upcoming Pond Hockey tournament this weekend.

Ahh!! I remember the memories of my childhood. There was something very special about playing hockey on the frozen pond. Heading down to the Pond with your skates over your shoulder. You and hockey buddies pushing the newly fallen snow off the Pond, setting the boots as goal posts, and hearing the imaginary roar of the crowd as you score the first goal! It just doesn’t get any better than this! The CAN/AM HOCKEY ASSOCIATION has done just that!!! You can re-enact this scene in Lake Placid, NY on January 26-29, 2012. The script is perfect…Pond Hockey with a team of close friends, the setting is spectacular with Whiteface Mountain overlooking Mirror Lake, the competition spirited and intense, and add into the mix the atmosphere of the Olympic site and the 1980 Gold Medal Victory. A Unique happening is about to take place. Be there to experience what hockey is all about.

Golden Arrow is very excited and happy to have all of our Pond Hockiers back for this upcoming weekend to enjoy another great year of Pond Hockey on Mirror Lake. (One suggestion, bring your heavy clothes and bundle up..dont want you frozen to that ice..hehe and please do not stick your tongue to it..not a pleasant experience either). We look forward to watching everyone strive for the gold medal in the division. OH!!!! Do not want to leave the youngsters out!! Sorry guys. There is also a Children’s hockey tournament going on across the street at the OLYMPIC ARENA. CANADIAN HOCKEY ENTERPRISE is hosting one of many youth hockey tournaments at the same time this weekend. If you get too cold from watching the guys out on the ice on Mirror Lake and want to watch more hockey, then head across the road to the Olympic Center and watch the youngsters strive for the Gold. Whew!!! Now I am all stoked to get out on this ice. Wish me luck and Good luck to all the participants this weekend in your tournaments!!! Goals for everyone!!! (Falls on ice few times) Have a great hockey weekend!!!
