FEELING HOT! HOT! HOT!!

Are the temperatures and humidty causing you to melt to a puddle on the floor?  As the title says are you feeling HOT HOT HOT???  (sorry..i just love to sing and dance)  In the city and looking for that cooling escape?  We know you have been experiencing humidity over 100 degrees or so.  Do not sit there sweating any more, head over to Lake Placid and enjoy the Adirondacks and the cooler temperatures that we have to offer.  The Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort has great air conditioned guest rooms and a relaxing WHITE SANDED PRIVATE BEACH right on the property. (ahhh…the sand fills good in your toes, quite the exfoliant)  Hop into one of our kayaks, rowboats, canoes or paddleboats and whisk around on the calm waters of Mirror Lake.  Please always make sure to wear your life jackets.  Now, let me turn you over to RICHARD OUR TOURGUIDE to give you a few ideas on how to beat the heat the rest of the summer.

Hey everyone!!  Just got back from a great hike on Mount Jo and boy am I feeling good.  Muscles are all stretched out and ready to do some more hiking.  The air temperature is great out on these hiking trails and will rejuvinate any person that has been trying to beat the heat.  Try your hand at the Mount Marcy mountain range and Mount Jo or head over to the Cascade Lake Region and try out one of the great trails in that region.  There are many short and longer hikes for any type of hiker and family.  Stop by the desk of the Golden Arrow and receive a listing of these trails or head over to HIGH PEAKS CYCLERY and hire your own guide or grab a hiking map.  Its a great way to leave the troubles of every day life behind and to enjoy the wilderness of the Adirondacks.

Hiking not your cup of tea or even java..hehe.  Then, how about swinging the ole golf club at one of the three challenging golf courses here in the area.  Our very own MS. DEAL MAKER has a great SUMMER MIDWEEK GOLF PACKAGE that will get you hitting a hole in one in your wallet.  For $129 per person per night (based on double occupancy) enjoy a round of golf (cart included) for each person at either Craigwood or Whiteface Inn Golf Clubs.  You can for an extra fee of $25 per person head over to Saranac Lake and the Saranac Inn Golf course and enjoy a relaxing time on the greens.  My favorite way to cool off after a busy day is to do a round of golf then hit the club house and enjoy that 19th hole and the beverages that come with it…hehe.   This is a great package that you will not want to miss out on.  Look out for the great Fall golf packages that we offer as well.

As you can see, so many ways to get out of the sweltering heat and cool down for a day or more.  Why not make it a week stay where if you stay 7 evenings or more we will give 20% DISCOUNT off any room type!!!  Yes, I said 20% discount!!!  Great time to take a vacation with the family before school begins.  Do not forget Main Street of Lake Placid is full of quaint shops and restaurants to make anyones travels merry!!  Are you still sitting there reading this Blog!!!  WHAT!!  Get off that computer and throw some bags in the car and enjoy a break in the humidity at the Golden Arrow and Lake Placid!  I have a brewed Ale waiting for you at the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery that you will not want to miss.  See you there!!

If I have not wet your appetite as of yet for this weekend.  Then, boy I have not done my job.  There is a lot of great activities to keep everyone busy both inside and outside.  Have a great weekend and we will be back next week to bring you the 4th of July events that are set for Lake Placid.

Wilmington Whiteface Bike Fest

Hear I am once again pedaling my bicycle down Route 86 toward Whiteface Mountain, I am thinking to myself (self how is this ride today), wouldn’t it be cool to race someone to the top of the mountain.  Of course, my mind is saying, ARE YOU CRAZY!!  Do you realise how steep of a climb it is going up that road to the top of Whiteface?  That will take you days!  So, I tone my inner voice out and say hey if all those athletes can race up WHITEFACE MOUNTAIN then so can I.  As, I am taking in the great views and huffing my bicycle up the incline of the Veteran’s Memorial Highway, my cell phone starts vibrating.  Finishing the climb to the top of Whiteface, I check my text message and it is none other than the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort.  The staff is saying, HEY RICH, do not forget all this weekend the WILMINGTON WHITEFACE BIKE FEST is taking place again down in Wilmington. Watch out for all those bikers!!  Shouting out!  What are they talking about?!   Then it dawns on me they are talking about the Uphill Bike Races at Whiteface Mountain!!!  Text back, okay guys tell me about this great event again!!

Bike Fest Logo

So, that staff would like to mention about the WHITEFACE LEADVILLE 100 QUALIFIER that will be taking place this Sunday June 17th, 2012 in Wilmington and at Whiteface Mountain.  This race is part of the LEADVILLE QUALIFYING SERIES where the finals will be held in Colorado and Wilmington is very excited to be hosting this event with our other annual Bike Fest on this upcoming weekend of June 14th through the 17th.  These races are designed both to provide qualifying opportunities for riders to get into this year’s Leadville Trail 100 and also provide an excellent opportunity to race and ride in some of the most beautiful and challenging terrain in the Adirondacks. This 100 kilometer race will provide entry to 100 athletes into this year’s Leadville Trail 100.  There will be all kinds of activities taking place in Wilmington this weekend to coincide with the bike races.  They will be offering instructional rides, live entertainment,  BEACH PARTY, fun free family events and the popular best calves of the Wilmington contest!!  (Lol..no your eye are not playing tricks…they will be judging those muscular calves from all that bike racing…I dont stand a chance…oh my!!)

Improvements Are a Happening!!

Hello!!  All my fine friends and guests out there in the world.  They finally have given me a break from my busy schedule to chat a few lines up with all of you about the Golden Arrow.  Improvments have been in full swing for the past few months and my poor ole fingers have been worked to the bone (well not literally, that would be just wrong..haha)  Who am I??  What you have forgotten me already??  MR FIX-IT is the name and Golden Arrow improvements and construction is my game.  Sorry, just full of puns and limericks today.  As, I digress, we have been working hard on a few projects in the resort that I would like to touch basis on.  A few updates on a few aspects of the resort.

First of all we have been working on the past few months installing brand new doors on all the guest rooms through out the resort.  These doors have been brightening up the hallways of the resort and given the resort that calming Adirondack feel.  If you have not been here within the past year, these doors compliment the brand new electronic key readers that have been installed on these doors.  Just one of the finer details that I feel spruce up a resort.

Headed now to the balcony area of the 2nd floor middle wing.  Whoops! Almost slipped off the balcony because the rail is gone where we are busy working on putting intricate stonework on the balcony floor and wall.  We are also, installing some new sturdy rails on these balconies to make our guests feel nice and secure while you are enjoying those nice evenings looking out over Mirror Lake. (ah, reminds me that I need to take Ms. Deal Maker for a nice candle light sitting on one of these balconies before I get in trouble)

Okay!  So, for the last project of my tour of the grounds.  We have been working on the carport area of the resort.  We have torn up the old stonework that was there when you pull underneath the carport.  This is to make way for our new stonework that is in the process of being laid down at this point.  We have included our GOLDEN ARROW LOGO and name into this stone work.  It looks so great and I am so excited for the finished product.  I have been putting a new roof on the carport.  This is coming out very well!!

As you can see, the man of many talents (yes tooting my own horn) has been very busy this past month.  Not going to show you the pictures of the finished products quite yet.  Please take that much needed trip and see these improvements at the Golden Arrow first hand.  They are quite uplifting to the resort and you will not want to miss it.  While you are here enjoy a relaxing night and great meal at our Generations Restaurant.  Ah! I see the boys slacking off a little.  Time to get back to the ole grindstone.  Everyone have a great day and I especially look forward to seeing you all as we finish up these improvements for the Summer Season!!!
